It is the Policy of the WMMA
NOT to discriminate against any race or ethnic group
of people by adopting rules that would eliminate the participation
of any specific martial art created by any race or ethnic
group of people.
Mixed Martial Arts means
just that, mixed!! Meaning all arts are allowed from all
peoples anywhere in the world to compete in a truly open
forum that does not discrimate against any technique from
any art.
In The Past several Filipino
Americans felt severely disenfranchised and discriminated
against when they were told that they could not compete
with their native art of Dumpag in an unnamed Amateur MMA
event.
To give you an idea of the problem,
the art of "Filipino Dumpag" does not exist without the
use of Elbows and Open Hand Slaps. It is a unique art that
is very effective against the striker or grappler and many
amateur practicioners of this art want to compete in MMA.
However to disallow them from using elbows is like telling
a wrestler he cannot grab.
It is wrong that practicioners
of Filipino Dumpag, Muay Thai and other arts that don't
fit into the fearful, narrow rules of promotors who have
never fought, have been left out and denied the opportunity
to compete as amateurs in MMA events.
The Fact is that "True
MMA" bouts can be quite safely held allowing elbows and
knees if you simply KNOW what you are doing. Plus fighters
never become better by hiding or running from a technique.
It is only by facing new techniques that they will learn
to counter and overcome.
The Martial Art that one chooses
to study does not make him an amateur or professional.
Whether one studies an art that consists primarily of Elbows,
an art of Grabbing and Throwing or an art of Punching &
Kicking has absolutely nothing to do with one's status as
a professional or amateur.
What makes someone an amateur
or professional in their art (or MMA) is their
PROFICIENCY & EXPERIENCE
in that art or MMA competition.
Some so-called MMA Organizations
will outlaw the use of Elbows, Knees and other strikes but
allow a Purple Belt in BJJ to compete against a White Belt
in BJJ. This is the height of idiocy and certainly unfair.
A Purple Belt in BJJ has a far superior proficiency and
experience level in BJJ than that of a White Belt and there
is no way he should be competing in the same class.
THATS WHEN PEOPLE GET HURT!
We at the WMMA not only
allow all Martial Arts to be used at all levels but we also
carefully monitor the true skill level of each competitor
so that beginners are not cheated and sand bagged. Check
out our rules link at the top right of the page.
MMA means Mixed Martial
Arts, allowing all arts without exception. You cannot selectively
discrimate against arts you don't know or like just because
you are afraid of them.
At the WMMA we never will do this.
True MMA will flourish and develop with us. All fighters
are welcome !!
